Is it Sunnah to drink standing up?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0008 Q: Fulan, Sheffield UK. How do we reconcile between the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ prohibiting drinking standing up and him doing it? A:  There are many ways of harmonizing between these types of hadiths, many ways. From them, is to say that it’s Haram to drink standing up unless there is a need or a necessity. A need, or a necessity. In which there’s a crowd of people around, you don’t have the ability to sit down, you need the water, لا بأس. Another way is to say that it’s not Haram but it’s just disliked. (arabic) You shouldn’t do it but it’s not Haram. So the hadith that says “don’t drink standing up”, if you drink standing up then (the speaker says something sounds like “spit up”?), would you like Shaitan to drink with you, would you like this person to drink with you standing up, meaning, you shouldn't do it, and the hadith in which the Prophet, he drank standing up, proving that you can do it. Okay? There’re different way of harmonizing be

How can you support the Hadith Disciple school of thought?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0007 Q: Fulan, London UK. ‎السلام عليكم شيخ مفتي عيد مبارك How can I support the Hadith Disciple movement? A:  Wa-ʿalaykumu s-salāmu wa-raḥmatu llāhi wa-barakātuhu…May Allah bless you in both worlds. You can support the Hadith Disciple movement in many different ways. By you watching in, listening, asking a question, is support. By you giving advice, constructive criticism, even refuting, is support. People that hate on Hadith Disciple, is supporting Hadith Disciple. Financially supporting Hadith Disciple. Speaking good, doing whatever you can. That’s all a part of, what? The support. So do whatever you can bi ith nillahi ta’ala. If you watch, if you wanna transcribe a lecture, put together a book from the many faidahs, classes and khutbahs, if you gonna donate, whatever you wanna do, huh? There’re many different ways, of supporting and helping out and bi ith nillahi ta’ala, anyone’s support is always needed and appreciated. Jazakallahu khairan. There

Is listening to music a major sin or a minor sin?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0006 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC, As Salaamu Alaikum Mufti. Is music a major or minor sin? A:  …Wa-ʿalaykumu s-salāmu wa-raḥmatu llāh…Before we get to it being a major or minor sin, it has to be established that it is a sin, it is a sin. We don’t wanna open up no can of worms, but if someone asked the question, is music Haram? You consider music to be Haram, that’s fine. And if you consider not to be Haram, then that’s a view of some of the ulema of Islam. So that’s first and foremost. We’re not getting into the details of it right now right here. That’s number one. Number two. So no one can say “Mufti says music Halal”, huh? Number two. The ulema of Islam who say that it is Haram, the overwhelming majority, the overwhelming majority who took the view that listening to instruments and things like this, is Haram. Is it a major sin or a minor sin? It’s gonna depend on, one may say, the content of the music. Let’s say, let’s make an example of this. If someo

Is neglecting to learn Arabic to understand it, sinful?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0005 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC, As Salaamu Alaikum Mufti. Can neglecting to study to understand Arabic(but being able to read it) be considered a sin? A:  Wa-ʿalaykumu s-salāmu wa-raḥmatu llāhi wa-barakātuhu…If you’re a normal 9-5 Muslim, upon which there is no great responsibility, then it’s not necessarily a sin. Because a person only gets a sin for something which is mandatory, something that is obligatory and they abandon that act. They abandon an obligatory and mandatory practice. If it is a virtue, a recommended act upon you, there’s no sin. As far as if you’re someone who’s to lead, to guide, to teach, people come to you for information, you have the ability, and the skill, and the talent, or the talent and the skill, and you refuse to get it, and do that which is necessary, then it could be a sin upon you. It’s like a police officer, or security guard, and he fails to go to the gym, he fails to work out, he fails to go to the shooting range, he

What's the ruling on using rosary beads for dhikr?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0004 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC. What about using rosary beads? A:  Me personally, I don't use rosary beads, nor do I advise people to use rosary beads. I would say make the tasbeeh with your right hand, make it with your right hand. Some people even say with the left hand, they say the hand. That’s the best thing to do. Do I consider it to be a bid’ah? Haram to use rosary beads? No. For several reasons. If you’re making a dhikr, saying tasbeeh a hundred times, a thousand times, a million times, and you say it like this and you’re spinning and dancing and you twirl in a black room and this gets me closer to Allah when I make the tasbeeh like this I’m with the the Rahman, that’s bid’ah. That is a bid’ah. You’ve now (arabic) you’ve fell into bidah now. By believing in making things up and specifying, but if you use something as a calculator, you calculating money, I can count with my hands, I can count with stones, I can use a calculator, I can use an

What's the ruling on saying "Jumuah Mubarak" and "Ramadan Mubarak"?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0003 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC. What is the ruling on saying “Ramadan Kareem” and “Jumuah Mubarak”? A:  Just like saying anything else. Just like saying anything else in Islam. You see a Muslim say حياك الله. Every time you see someone overseas in Saudi Arabia what’s the first thing you say? (كيف حالك) (الحمد لله) (طيبين) . Is there a hadith to support that? Did the Prophet say this to the companions (كيف حالُكَ), every time he saw them? Rather is there an authentic hadith to say that’s what the Prophet ﷺ that’s how he greeted his companions? In which he said (كيف حالُكَ). Let alone other words (ايش اخبارك) so on and so forth. What you say on a daily basis, there is no interaction in Madinah, with any scholar, unless you say that first. You never go to him and say ("يا شيخ"(not)) ((you say)كيف حالك شيخ) so on and so forth. You make dua for him (كيف حالكم طيبين), then you ask your question. Is there a hadith to support that? But the people they

Is saying the salam before the question not from the Sunnah?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0002 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC. I've heard a student of knowledge say “saying the salam before the question is not from the Sunnah”, is this true and so should us viewers online refrain from doing this here? A:  Someone who’s watching from long-distance, or speaking from long-distance, or corresponding from long-distance, in my humble opinion, it’s like someone who enters a home, it’s like someone who walks into the masjid, someone who walks in to the halaqah. And the Islamic etiquette is to give the salam before you enter upon someone, huh? As the scholars of Islam explain with regards to the rulings of the cellphone, modern day rulings, when you call someone who gives the salam first? The one who picks up, or the one who’s calling? And they say the one who’s calling, (arabic), he’s the one who’s what? Knocking on the door. نعم. Or you say hello, if you choose to say hello. Who is it? السلام عليكم, it’s me, Mufti, such and such. وهكذا huh? So if yo

Which disciplines should Muslims choose and pursue?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0001 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC, As Salaamu Alaikum Mufti. What other disciplines should a Muslim be part of, if memorizing and studying is not one of their strong points? Can you be like Khalid bin Waleed today? A: وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اَللهِ. There’re two levels that we have in Islam, brothers and sisters. The first level is the obligatory level. That which every single Muslim must achieve. An obligatory level of knowledge. Man, woman, child, scholar, black, white, it doesn’t matter. Everybody has to know this basic amount of Islam. And anything besides that, is a means of virtue. It’s extra. And it is only gonna help you out and make you better and make those who are around you better. Knowledge never brings nothing but light, بِإِذْنِ اللَّه تَعَالَىٰ. It’s gonna bring more light, more نُور. But you don’t have to seek it. So as long as you know the basics of Islam, the fundamentals of your belief, of purification, of prayer, or any dee
