Is shaping a cheek line for your beard permissible?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0012 Q: Fulan, Riyadh, KSA. Is it permissible to shave parts of facial hair that is closer to the eyes and nose to make a straight and sharp cheek line? A:   There are two different issues now mentioned in this question. The first issue is: Taking the hair off the man’s face. Period. Wherever that hair is. Eyebrows, eyelashes, this that (Mufti points to area beneath the lower lip and sides), face. Because, one may say, I have a lot of hair, I’m very hairy. And the hair becomes unsightly. Hair out of my nose, hair all the way up to my cheeks, nearly connecting to my eyes. That’s one reason. (The second issue is:) That’s not the same as someone saying I want my beard to be shaped up. I want to look sharp, I want it to be nice and tailored. That’s two different issues now. Two different Islamic rulings pertaining to necessity, need, and pertaining to a want, a style and a desire. As we mentioned last week in Masjid Taqwa . With regards to

How to ask a potential spouse's Aqeedah?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0011 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC, As Salaamu Alaikum Mufti. What is the proper way of asking a potential spouse’s aqeedah at a sit-down, if the place you come from, the label Sunni could mean many different things? A:  Wa-ʿalaykumu s-salāmu wa-raḥmatu llāhi wa-barakātuhu…It depends on the sister you’re looking to marry. First and foremost, as we said, that when you wish to marry a sister, you should ask Allah firstly, and try your hardest to pick from a select, a select group. You shouldn’t just try to pick a sister from anywhere. But you should try to look for a sister’s hand in marriage that comes from a known background. Of deen, of character, of good health, of good looks, whatever the case may be. What you are looking for. Everybody understand this? And you shouldn’t just take any random sister in which you have to do all of the investigative detective work yourself. Because that leaves room for: lying, deception, that leaves room for you not being

Do the angels know what's in our minds?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0010 Q: Fulan, Ottawa Canada. How can the angels write down us having the intention of doing a good deed but not actually performing it? Do the angels have the knowledge of what’s in our minds? A:  First and foremost is, there is no how. When it comes to the Unseen. Because when you ask the question, how, that mean then you're comparing. You’re comparing. You're making a comparison to something that you already know or think. How can they do this because we can’t, or because such and such and such and such. So there’s no how. That's first and foremost. Secondly is, when a person thinks about doing a good deed, iza hamma , when a person has hamm . Hamm is not just a sheer thought of something. Rather, hamm is a thought and a intention, that is borderline decisiveness, borderline decisiveness. Everybody clear on this? وَلَقَدْ هَمَّتْ بِهِ ۖ وَهَمَّ بِهَا لَوْلَا أَن رَّأَىٰ بُرْهَانَ رَبِّهِ Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) He said about Yusuf (عل

Playing fantasy video games as a Muslim?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0009 Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC, As Salaamu Alaikum Mufti. What is the ruling on playing role-playing video games where you play as a mage, sorcerer or wizard? And those where you pray to gods and raise the dead? A:  May Allah bless you. Video games in general, that’s a long discussion, with regards to Muslims playing video games. And it’s not just about Muslim youth, but Muslims in general. A grown man plays video games, alright. So with regards to playing a mage, huh? Or sorcerer, or wizard, or sorcerer’s apprentice and things like this, king Arthur whatever, huh? Whatever game one is playing. طيب . And raising the dead and so on and so on and so forth. The general problematic issues of video games, apply to most video games. Whether it’s nudity, whether it’s music, or whether it’s, even deeper than that, such as the waste of time. Not saying that all video games are Haram. Nor am I saying that every recreational act, or sport, or even some type of pas
