Is saying the salam before the question not from the Sunnah?

Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0002

Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC. I've heard a student of knowledge say “saying the salam before the question is not from the Sunnah”, is this true and so should us viewers online refrain from doing this here?

A: Someone who’s watching from long-distance, or speaking from long-distance, or corresponding from long-distance, in my humble opinion, it’s like someone who enters a home, it’s like someone who walks into the masjid, someone who walks in to the halaqah. And the Islamic etiquette is to give the salam before you enter upon someone, huh? As the scholars of Islam explain with regards to the rulings of the cellphone, modern day rulings, when you call someone who gives the salam first? The one who picks up, or the one who’s calling? And they say the one who’s calling, (arabic), he’s the one who’s what? Knocking on the door. نعم. Or you say hello, if you choose to say hello. Who is it? السلام عليكم, it’s me, Mufti, such and such. وهكذا huh? So if you call, or you text, or you're joining in on the live-stream you give the salams first, I don’t see anything wrong with that. If that student of knowledge believes that it’s “not from the Sunnah” or it’s “Haram” or it's a “Bid’ah”, طیب. He’s entitled to his own what? (audience replies) As long as he’s qualified for that. And Allah knows best.
