What's the ruling on saying "Jumuah Mubarak" and "Ramadan Mubarak"?
Naṣāʾiḥ of Ibn Muneer - 0003
Q: Fulan, Famagusta TRNC. What is the ruling on saying “Ramadan Kareem” and “Jumuah Mubarak”?
A: Just like saying anything else. Just like saying anything else in Islam. You see a Muslim say حياك الله. Every time you see someone overseas in Saudi Arabia what’s the first thing you say? (كيف حالك) (الحمد لله) (طيبين) . Is there a hadith to support that? Did the Prophet say this to the companions (كيف حالُكَ), every time he saw them? Rather is there an authentic hadith to say that’s what the Prophet ﷺ that’s how he greeted his companions? In which he said (كيف حالُكَ). Let alone other words (ايش اخبارك) so on and so forth. What you say on a daily basis, there is no interaction in Madinah, with any scholar, unless you say that first. You never go to him and say ("يا شيخ"(not)) ((you say)كيف حالك شيخ) so on and so forth. You make dua for him (كيف حالكم طيبين), then you ask your question. Is there a hadith to support that? But the people they do it what? Over and over and over and over again. Does anyone believe that it’s mandatory, that you have to, that it’s a specific reward, that it’s a specific Sunnah? No one believes that. It’s a good fine positive word that you say to your Muslim brother. And the same applies to saying anything else in Islam. “Ramadan Mubarak”, may Allah bless our Ramadan. Did the Prophet say that? Is there a specific virtue? Is there authentic hadith to support that? Do I have to say that every single time? That’s what? Different story. But if you just said it, “Jumuah Mubarak” or “Jumuah Mubaraka”, “Happy Jumuah”, blessed Jumuah. Saying it every week, every single time, in a specific way? Different story. But just to say a statement of positivity that is not against the Qur’an و Sunnah, there’s nothing wrong with that. And if you wish to say that it’s a Bid’ah or it's against the Sunnah, you’re now gonna be forced into a corner to apply to a hundred other things that you say on a what? Daily basis. Hm? And Allah knows best.
